Jack grew up in Tyler, Texas and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. He received his B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, and his J.D. from the South Texas School of Law.

Jack and his wife, Andrea, have three children. They are very active in the community, their church, Christ Episcopal Church, and organizations such as the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Texas Rose Festival.
